The 2013 New York State Fair is less than 2 days away and I am getting excited!! I wish I could go every year like I did in my senior year of highschool.. those were the days! :)

This yeats Fair runs August 22nd through September 2, 2013. Gates open at 8am daily and then buildings are open 10am-10pm, except Labor Day where they close at 9pm.

You can still score the $0.25 Milk Cup in the Dairy Building and the $1 Potato in the Horticulture Building - 2 of my favorite deals! Plus grab Fair favorites like Deep fried PB&J, Mac & Cheese, Candy Bars (?? Deep fried Candy bars??), Masjed Potatoes and Deep Fried Cheesecake! (I think I may not eat the day prior??)

NEW this year - The Southern Fried Chicken Donut – a chicken breast fillet with pickles and chipotle mayo between halves of a warm glazed donut. Now that I see what it is made up of.. I actually would like to try one!

-A Taste NY Trail will guide Fairgoers to some of New York agriculture's largest and most important industries throughout the Fair. The trail will begin at the Taste NY Marketplace when Fairgoers enter the gate. After leaving the Taste NY Marketplace, New Yorkers will be provided with a map of the Taste NY trail, taking them to various locations across the Fairgrounds where they will have an opportunity to get their trail maps stamped, taste delicious New York products and learn more about how these products are produced.
-Dairy Cow Birthing Center: Located across from Tram Stop 8 near the FFA Exhibit Building, this new exhibit by the New York Animal Agriculture Coalition and Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine allows Fairgoers to witness firsthand the miracle of life by watching a dairy cow give birth to a calf daily.
-History of the State Fair Exhibit: New this year, Fairgoers will have the opportunity to visit the New York State Fair Museum in the Grange Building, next to the Poultry Barn, and view displays that tell the story of where the Fair began, where it traveled, who came to the Fair, who the entertainers were and much more from 1841 to the present.
-Onondaga Lake: A Fresh Gateway to a New New York: For the first time ever, the Fair will host a major exhibit that will show New Yorkers how coordinated remediation efforts between state and local partners at Onondaga Lake are changing the region and providing for future economic vitality. The exhibit will occupy more than 3,000 square feet of space in an entire wing of the Center of Progress Building.

Mobile Fair Site:
A mobile version of nysfair.org
It functions like an app on a smartphone and allows smartphone users to have easy access to the most popular Fair information (concerts, visitor guide, food guide, etc.)

QR Code:
There is a QR Code on the advance sale posters and counter cards at all advance sale ticket locations.
If you can scan the QR Code with a smartphone, you can enter into a drawing to win a free, one-day parking pass to the Fair.
Those without a smartphone can text “parking” to 24587 to be entered into the free parking drawing.

Interactive Fairgrounds Map:
The interactive fairgrounds map on the Fair’s website allows the viewer to zoom in on quadrants of the fairgrounds.
They are then able to roll over or click on specific locations (numbered elements on the map) to view more details about that specific location – what exhibits are in that building, what entertainment is located in that area, etc.

And that's the skinny on this years Fair! Check back here tomorrow ya'll - I've got some tickets to giveaway for one of the acts at the Grandstand... and the word in BOLD should give you a clue who!! :)

Happy Fair!!
