This time of year a lot of people are trying to save money. Starting to "coupon" and find others ways to save. And much of the time that includes buying in bulk. So, is it really worth it to buy in bulk? Well, the answer varies to be honest. Let's take this example:
Right now, Wegman's has Pampers Wipes on sale (192 count) for $5.49. Add in a $0.50 coupon for pampers wipes (which doubles to $1) and you now pay $4.49 for those same wipes. That is $0.0207/wipe. Now, recently wegmans had the same pampers wipes in a 56 count on sale for $1.49. With the pampers wipes coupon - just $0.49. That is only $0.008 a wipe! Less than one cent! Need the quantity of 192? Buy 4 packs at the $0.49 price. You even end up with 32 more wipes! (Wegman's allows 4 like coupons in one transaction.)You even end up with 32 more wipes! Note that the wipes are currently back to regular price of $0.99, which still is cheaper than the bulk price. In this instance - it IS better to buy the single packs, just more of them.
Cheerios, yellow box. On sale right now 2/$5 for a 14 oz box size at Wegman's. Plus, a $0.50 Cheerios coupon which brings the price down to $1.50/box. Wegman's carries a 40.7 ounce size for $5.59. Use the coupon and now it is $4.59. In order to buy 40oz of cereal, you would need to buy (3) boxes of the 14oz size. That makes 42oz for $4.50. Essentially, the same price for 1 ounce more of cereal. In this case, not a big difference. NOW, when the cereal goes back to its' original price of $2.99 a box? THEN you would definitely want to buy the larger size as the new cost is almost $6.
The point of this - buying smaller sizes ON SALE with COUPONS almost always nets you a better deal.
Now, I am curious what the price is at BJ's and Sam's for these same products. Let me know if you know the prices so we can compare! Comment here or on facebook and let me know!
